Always wanted to try scuba diving but never had a licence? That’s exactly what Discover Scuba Diving is for. What is Discover Scuba Diving?
Discover Scuba Diving (sometimes called a “try dive”) is the easiest way to find out what breathing underwater actually feels like. There’s no course to pass and nothing to prepare. After a short, friendly briefing, your instructor takes you into the water step by step, right off the Eilat shore, so you can relax and enjoy the reef safely. You’re never more than an arm’s reach from your guide.
What’s included
Everything you need for your first dive is in the price:
- A personal instructor with you the whole time — one-to-one attention, not a crowd.
- A full set of diving equipment — all included, nothing to rent separately.
- A short briefing and one guided dive on Eilat’s house reef.
- About 80 minutes of dive time, a maximum depth of 6 metres, and an easy entry straight from the shore.
Who it’s for
Discover Scuba is for anyone curious about diving — first-timers, families and travellers. No prior experience is needed and there’s no exam at the end, and it’s open from age 12. If you can breathe through the regulator and enjoy looking at fish, you can do this. It’s also the perfect way to decide whether you want to go on and get certified.
If you wear glasses
You can’t wear glasses under a mask: the arms stop it sealing against your face, and it will leak. But you won’t have to see a blur either.
- Weaker than −3 — you don’t need a prescription mask. Underwater everything looks about a third bigger and closer, and that’s enough.
- From −3 to −6 — we have prescription masks and will fit you one. The reef will be sharp.
- Stronger than −6 — even our strongest mask gives you a usable picture, and bigger things are easy to see. Or dive in your own contact lenses.
Our masks correct short-sightedness only, not astigmatism. At small values you’ll barely notice.
Contact lenses. Soft lenses work fine under a mask. But if you’ve never worn them, don’t try them for the first time on dive day: unfamiliar lenses sting, and underwater that’s stress you don’t need. Wear them at home for a few days first, or dive without correction.
Just tell us your prescription in advance, and the mask will be waiting for you.
How much does it cost
Discover Scuba is priced per group, so it gets better value the more of you come:

- 3 participants — ₪1,110
- 4 participants — ₪1,440
Every option includes full equipment, the instructor’s time, and your guided dive on the reef.
Before you pay, ask five questions
Prices for a first dive in Eilat vary a lot, and the number on its own doesn’t tell you what you’re buying. These five questions do. Ask them wherever you’re considering — including here.
1. How many minutes will I actually be in the water? A price means little without this. Our program runs about three hours, with up to 80 minutes of it underwater.
2. How many divers per instructor? With us, up to four — and the group size is written into the price: ₪450 for one, ₪800 for two, ₪1,110 for three, ₪1,440 for four. You know it before you arrive, not once you’re on the beach.
3. Do we practise the skills in shallow water first? Yes. You learn to breathe, clear your mask, equalise and hold your balance in the water while standing in shallow water, and we go deeper only once that feels easy. Depth comes after the skills, not instead of them.
4. Who is teaching, and what is their rating? Dmitry Trubarev, PADI Course Director #978886 — the rating that trains instructors. In Eilat there are only a handful.
5. Do I get a PADI certificate? Yes, a PADI Discover Scuba Diving certificate is included.
If the answers somewhere else are better, go there. The point of asking is to find out before you pay, not after.
