At night the reef transforms. Sun corals that stay shut all day open up and bloom beautifully in the dark. Nocturnal hunters come out, and — depending on the season — you might drift over flickering schools of glassfish that turn your torch beam into a mesmerising underwater light show. It’s the same reef you know by day, and yet completely new.
What you’ll learn
Diving in the dark takes its own set of skills, and this course teaches them step by step. You’ll learn how to:
- Choose the right site for a night dive.
- Navigate in the dark using specialised techniques and equipment like dive torches, so you always know where you are and how to get back.
The highlight: lionfish hunting
One of the most exciting parts of the course is lionfish hunting — a genuinely thrilling, hands-on experience that most divers never forget. It’s the kind of night that turns a certified diver into a night-diving enthusiast.

The course includes three dives, and it’s best done over two nights so you can really immerse yourself in the experience rather than rushing it.
Who it’s for
Night Diver is for divers who already hold an Advanced Open Water certification (or a recognised equivalent) and want to see the reef in a completely new light (or, well, in the dark). Not there yet? Take the Advanced Open Water course first — a night dive is even one of the adventure dives you can choose on it.
