🤿 Divemaster is the first professional rating in the PADI system. But for me, becoming a PADI Divemaster in Eilat isn’t just another certification card. It’s the moment your relationship with diving starts to change.
You stop being just a participant on a dive and start seeing diving differently: you learn to plan, organise, control the dive and — most importantly — keep other divers safe and comfortable in the water.
What a Divemaster actually does
The main job is to make sure the divers around you feel safe and comfortable. And we don’t learn that from theory alone.
We start with workshops — we break down and drill the skills and signals you’ll use when working with people. We model situations that can come up during a dive and practise reacting to them correctly.
Then the real work begins — under your instructor’s supervision, you start practising on actual dives with real divers and clients. This is where theory turns into real experience.
You learn to see the whole group at once:
- someone is swimming too fast;
- someone is falling behind;
- someone needs help with equipment;
- someone is burning through air faster than the rest;
- someone looks uncertain.
Your job is to notice these things in time and respond correctly.
You’ll learn to plan dives
A good dive starts long before you’re in the water. You have to account for:
- 🌊 site conditions;
- 🌬 current and visibility;
- ⏱ time and depth;
- 🧭 the route;
- 👥 the group’s experience level;
- 🆘 what could go wrong.
As a Divemaster you learn to see the dive as a whole — from preparation to getting back on shore or on the boat.
You’ll become a more confident diver
The Divemaster programme demands solid buoyancy control, body position, movement and gear handling. You practise constantly. And gradually a lot of things you used to think about actively become second nature.
This is one of those courses that genuinely leaves you feeling like a different diver.
You’ll learn to work with people
This is one of the most interesting parts of the course. Divers are all different. Some are highly experienced, others are in a new situation for the first time. Every person needs a different approach.
So Divemaster isn’t only about how well you dive yourself. It’s also about how you help another person feel good and safe underwater.
What a Divemaster certificate gives you in Israel
In Israel, a Divemaster certificate gives you a real advantage when diving locally — including being exempt from the mandatory refresher in cases where the rules and the specific dive centre allow it.
And you don’t have to jump straight into working professionally. Even if you already have a career, you can use Divemaster as a way to spend your vacation at a dive centre, gain experience and keep developing as a diver.
Work, internships and experience
A lot of dive centres love working with Divemasters and offer internships or other practice opportunities. During an internship you get the most valuable thing — experience: you work alongside professionals, take part in real dives, see how a dive centre is run and gradually build confidence.
And if you already have enough experience and are ready to work as a professional Divemaster, you can get paid for it. The certificate can become not just another line in your logbook, but the real start of a professional path — all the way up to PADI Instructor (OWSI).
Duration and how to sign up
You don’t need to wait for a group to form. If you’re ready — we start when it suits you. The PADI Divemaster course takes 7 days, and in that time we cover the theory, practical exercises, workshops and — most importantly — get real experience working with divers.
It’s genuinely a very interesting course. You’ll learn a lot — not only as a diver, but as a person responsible for others.

How long does the Divemaster course take?
7 days one-on-one is standard. If your schedule is tight, we can split training into several visits at times that work for you.
What are the prerequisites?
PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent), a medical statement, current EFR (first aid) — no older than 24 months. Minimum 40 logged dives at certification.
What’s next after Divemaster?
Next up — Assistant Instructor and the OWSI instructor course. Or specialties — for example Sidemount and technical diving.
