Sunken ships are some of the most captivating dives in the world — but exploring them properly takes real skill. The PADI Wreck Diver course teaches you to do it safely and confidently: reading a wreck, planning your dive, handling the right gear, and keeping a cool head inside. Here’s what the course covers, who it’s for, and what it costs in Eilat.
What you’ll learn
Wreck diving is a craft, and this course teaches it step by step. You’ll learn to:
- Assess a wreck — judge its condition and decide whether it’s safe to explore from the inside, or better admired from the outside.
- Map and plan wreck dives — lay out the wreck and plan your dive in detail before you drop in.
- Use specialised gear — torches, extra air tanks, reels, gloves and more, and how each keeps you safe.
- Move without touching — swim cleanly through narrow passages without contacting anything, a key skill for exploring inside a wreck safely.
The toughest exercise: zero visibility
One of the most challenging parts of the course is diving in zero visibility, which we practise in shallow water where it’s controlled and safe. It teaches you to stay calm and focused even if you suddenly find yourself in complete darkness inside a wreck. It’s demanding — and it genuinely transforms you as a diver.
Who it’s for
Wreck Diver is for divers who already hold an Advanced Open Water certification (or a recognised equivalent). If that’s you and wrecks fascinate you, this is your course. Not there yet? Take the Advanced Open Water course first. Going deep on wrecks too? The Deep Diver course is a natural companion.
The Satil is waiting
Eilat has one of the best training wrecks anywhere: the Satil, a former Israeli Navy missile boat resting upright just off the shore. It’s the perfect place to put your new wreck skills to work — reading the structure, planning your route, and exploring a real warship with confidence.
